Design Process

First I had to bust out all the product designs that had been incubating in my brain. Once enough ideas were on the table, I chose which two I would move forward with.

Although many of the sketches excited me, I decided to move forward with the two concepts that were the most practical for my given time frame, whilst still being exciting and dynamic: the cascading tea box and retro chip box. I then sketched out more developed versions of these ideas.

From here I had to decide which sketch I was going to take forward to the next stage. Although I had a better idea of the colors and typography I wanted for the chip box, as a concept I felt more drawn to the tea box. So I took my drawing and began to develop a prototype.

The first prototype was close, but the lid was too large. At this point I could at least see an idea of how it could come together. I still was not stoked on the the colors or typography though. It was just… kind of boring. So I decided to spice it up.

Final Design

I made a final dyline that came to a perfect fit. But it needed a whole different design. I wanted to bring something exciting and new to the tea-drinking experience and the prototype did that, but the colors and typography didn’t. So I found an alliterative name that echoed the product and the experience I wanted the user to have: Cayenne Cascade. From this name came an exciting new color palette and new jagged and spazzy type: almost hyper-contrasting to the average tea experience. Simply rip off a tea bag, and enjoy.
